The short and top ensemble

I love wearing my shorts and top with peplum set that I made using Simplicity 1373 pattern

Simplicity 1373 is a sportswear pattern that includes slim pants and shorts plus tops with 2 different back interest styles and subtle peplum. The top option I made has front and back darts, a side zipper and buttons at the back.

It’s my 3rd pair of shorts made from this pattern. They are very easy and comfortable to wear. I didn’t have to do any fitting alteration at all. I just cut out the pattern according to my size and made them. A perfect easy fit. Don’t get that too often.

I haven’t made matching top and bottom sets for ages. Not since my kids were kids. I usually try to make contrasting mix and match items. But somehow this little set seemed to work. I know I’m going to want to mess with it and wear other tops and bottoms but I always remember the rule not to do that or else you end up with one item wearing out more than the other and when you go to wear them together it looks odd. One being older looking.

I chose to make this set in scuba fabric which has little doves all over it. I love wearing scuba as it’s easy to sew with and it’s really comfortable to wear. Bonus, it’s thick enough to cover those unwanted body bulges. I actually have my husband to thank for motivating me to make this short set in this print. He had discouraged me the week before when I wanted to wear shorts to church. So when I saw all the little doves on this print I knew it had to be my church shorts. Lol.

The back of the top was a bit fiddly to make and is a bit annoying to put on as you have to do up four buttons, two on each side, but at the back low down at the waist. It’s very awkward. The other issue is I need to wear a bra and I don’t like to wear the strapless sort much. As the print is in two tone blues, one being navy I figured wearing my navy bra might work. Might have to give that a re-think.

Wasn’t too sure about making a top with a peplum but it is better than I expected as it starts from above waist. In fact it’s more centre midriff so it skims over the belly pop! The shorts however, are right on the waist. I think it’s why the outfit is so comfortable to wear.

The pattern comes with a tie up back option which I think I will make next summer. Yay
